Principal's Message

Jay

Dear Parents, Guardians and Students,

Kaplan Career Academy hopes all our staff and families had a healthy and happy holiday season.  We are about to start the second half of the 2018-2019 school year and there is a lot of excitement in the air.  The effort and growth our students have shown so far this year is remarkable.  We are very proud.

Just to remind you of upcoming important items, please see the list below:

  • School will be closed Monday January 21st for Martin Luther King Day.
  • Starting the next day, Regents exams will be given from Tuesday January 22 through Friday January 25th.  Only those High School students who are scheduled for exams should be attending.  You will be contacted soon concerning your child’s schedule.  Middle School and Alternate Assessed students may attend school during the testing period.
  • School will be closed for Winter Recess, the week of February 18th through February 22nd.
  • If your child is a day student, please make sure you have completed the Free and Reduced Lunch Form.  It is extremely important that this form is completed and returned to us.  We give your child lunch every day, free of charge.  If we do not get these completed forms sent back to us, we won’t get funding and will lose the ability to provide lunch for your child.
  • Please contact the school (845) 522-8460 to update your contact information, home phone, cell phone, email address, etc…  In case of a closing, delayed opening or school emergency, our ability to contact you depends on the reliability of the information you give to us.
  • It is extremely important that you forward us copies of your child’s immunizations and most recent physicals.  This year the state added the Meningococcal conjugate vaccine.  Please check with your doctor to make sure your child is properly immunized for school.

A lot of exciting things have happened so far this year at Kaplan Career Academy.  The student café and school store are both open and running.  The “Kaplan Café” serves both students and staff and provide a great work experience for students learning restaurant skills.  The school store is run by students and tied to our PBIS program.  Students who earn points for their positive behavior are able to spend those points at the school store.  Drivers Education will be starting soon for students who have their learner’s permits.  Culinary Arts and Cosmetology programs will be starting soon.

It is a very exciting time here at Kaplan Career Academy.  Keep checking our website at www.gncufsd.org for changes.  Please feel free to contact the school if you have any questions or comments.  We are all looking forward to the new school year and hope you will join us and help us provide your child with the supportive and well-rounded learning environment Kaplan is famous for.

Thank you,

Mr. Jay Posephney
